To begin this massive project, partner Caroline Quinio and I researched the issues of energy and waste and determined a biomass gasification power plant to be the other main use for the site. This gasification plant would serve the energy needs of the housing, terminal and commercial programs, by converting the municipal solid waste into a clean syngas fuel.
After further research on the biomass gasification, waste processing and particulate control processes, we determined the size needed for the facility and its location on site.
We then designed unit types, facade and a canopy system and implemented these across the site. The concept and aesthetic inspiration for many of these came from the concept of motion and transparency. This concept drew from the existing transit terminal on-site.
