Project- Site, Masterplan and Overall Structure

The siteplan seeks to physically connect Jersey city and Hoboken, as well as providing a range of housing choices for many types of living situations. The idea is that the same housing unit placed in different locations on site provides completely different living atmospheres, i.e. intimate and quiet facing an interior atrium or urban and lively facing out to the existing Hoboken streetscape. The site scheme evolved over time with the development of the structural grid and the design of the housing units. The goal was to provide light and air on opposite sides of each housing units, shaping the overall massing into linear blocks. The height of the massing stays relatively low until closer to the west end of the site where the power plant and waste processing is located. Another main focus of the siteplan is the canopy over the railyard, which acts as a pedestrian connection between Jersey City and Hoboken as well as public green space, and also brings light to the railyard and terminal below.
