Computer Art

The project for this GSAPP drawing class was to reinterpret a bas relief of our choosing from the Metropolitan museum of art through a series of weekly 24” x 24” drawings. The goal of the class was also to develop a digital “hand” and refine drawing and representation skills using computer tools. I chose a Polynesian shield which was a screen as well as a bas relief. The motif of the piece featured many layered intertwining curves. I drew a series of sections of what I imagined the 3d space could be, and then began sectioning those sections to create intersection points. After awhile I began experimenting with color and the different color effects on black and white backgrounds. The final result of the drawings was a pointillist like effect that still retains the intertwining curvilinear quality of the original art piece.
