Climate Research Institute

This was my first studio at Columbia in Fall 2009. The climate research institute project is located on a site in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York. It is bordered on the north side by the elevated High Line park, and the south by 10th Avenue, a busy street. The focus I chose for the climate research center was mapping the regions of the world with the highest level of human displacement caused by climate change. The topic was based on a 2009 report published by Columbia University and various aid agencies. Within the institute, each study region contains a research segment for climatology and natural resources, in addition to as well as a mitigation strategy lab, to propose and implement solutions to these challenging problems. The institute also focuses on educating the New York public with an exhibit area accessible from both street level and the level of the pedestrian High Line park.
